Matt Phillips in Mumbrella: Why JD Wetherspoon is right to pull the plug on social

Was very happy to allow a LinkedIn post I wrote in the wake of JD Wetherspoons' decision to withdraw from social media to be re-published on leading Australian media trade title Mumbrella.

The main thrust was that social media isn't fit for the company's primary use case (customer service), and that in the rush to test-and-learn with digital, marketers can lose sight of what's most effective for their brand - in the pub chain's case I expect that's probably proven brand-building channels like TV, radio, print & out of home. And probably old-fashioned face-to-face conversations with staff.
